Wilton Manors Expands Dog Park at Colohatchee Park

Colohatchee Park

Exciting news!!  The City Commission of Wilton Manors has approved the improvements proposed at the last budget meeting.  The City will expand the dog play area adding an eight foot walking trail and a new outdoor fitness zone in Phase 1.  The improvements will cost about $400,000.

We are thrilled to have this park next door for our residents to make use of.  The cost to have access to the park is a $30 annual fee.  The City does have a professional pesticide company treat the park for fleas and ticks on a quarterly basis.  But since no-see-ums can be an issue so be sure to invest in some no-see-um repellent spray.

The park also includes a 7 acres of mangrove preserve. An elevated walkway allows visitors to walk through the wetland areas of the Middle River. The park is also is home to a basketball court, sand volleyball court, playground and a pavilion which can accommodate up to 75 people.

Metropolitan Apartments hosts Food Drive for Poverello

Food Drive for Poverello

Metropolitan Apartments is excited to host a food drive for our friends at Poverello. The Poverello Center, Inc., was originally founded in 1987 by Father Bill Collins (1931-2017) to feed people who, at the time, were dying in large numbers from complications from AIDS.  Because Father Collins recognized a need and did something about it.

Today, Poverello continues providing food as medicine to people with HIV who are living with the virus as a chronic condition, but also provides food as medicine to people with Cardiac and Kidney problems as well as those with glycemic disorders, Cancer or other Critical/Chronic illnesses. Each year nearly 3000 families needing support come to the Poverello Center, Inc. to select medically appropriate grocery items from our specialized menus.

For the month of June, Metropolitan will host a food drive for Poverello. Make your donations in our office thru July 3.

Most useful items needed are:

• Canned meats (tuna, chicken)
• Rice and beans (dry or canned)
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Canned soups and meals
• Pasta meals (ravioli, mac n’ cheese)
• Peanut butter and jelly

We are excited to partner with Poverello because we feel this is a worthy cause.  The generosity of our residents is inspiring.

Furthermore, volunteer opportunities and event fund raisers are available for those who would like to do more.
